Is the Bible man’s word, or is it the Word of God ?

If the holy scriptures were just a collection of writings made by men without any divine guidance , then the Bible would only be as reliable as the words of men.

To a person who seriously studies the bible , it eventually becomes clear that it is not the work of man . For example ,Why would the Children of Israel record the sinful history of their nation ?, or even record the scathing sins of their greatest leaders such as King David and especially Moses. The Jews would never have recorded their sinful history being unguided by the Holy Spirit.

How then was it written

(2 Tim 3:16 KJV) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

The word inspiration or theopneustos , means divinely breathed. What this means is that, God directed men to put into writing, messages, historical facts, doctrines, revelations etc .. that he wants us to know.God accomplished this through the Holy Spirit who told the writers exactly what to write.

(2 Pet 1:21 KJV) For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

God put the words in their mouths , and dictated to them what to write.

(Jer 1:9 KJV) Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

This is verified , in that much of what the Old Testament writers wrote, they themselves did not understand.

(1 Pet 1:11 KJV) Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

(1 Pet 1:12 KJV) Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

What about the different styles of the writers ? .If I wanted a legal document made , I would go to a lawyer , who would then make that document according to my specifications. It is this same principle where we get the different writing styles. When God wanted to speak poetically he chose a David. When he wanted to speak in symbols , he chose and Ezekiel ,a Daniel or a John.

How much of the Bible is God’s word ?

The answer is , all of it !.

(Mat 5:17 KJV) Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

(Mat 5:18 KJV) For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

When Jesus said this he meant every bit of the Bible is inspired , from every letter, a ” Jot ” , down to a “tittle” meaning the smallest mark. So, even the commas , colons , semicolons periods were divinely inspired by God.

How about what Satan has said, or even the account of the fall of Man. Things like that found in the Bible were inspired of record. That is , the divinely inspired writer was told what historical facts to record and what to omit.

Inspiration, Revelation and Illumination

Bible “Inspiration” is where the exact words of God are imparted to the writer by the Holy Spirit. This ceased when the Bible was completed . Anyone claiming divine inspiration must be classed as a liar ! .

Bible “Revelation “, is where Certain things are revealed to men that they otherwise would not know. Bible Revelation ceased with the book of Revelation , there has been none since then. Therefore, anyone claiming new revelation from God would have to be classified as a liar.

Spiritual “Illumination “, is different . It is the work of the Holy Spirit in the believer , by which spiritual understanding is given to him so that the scriptures can be understood.

(John 16:13 KJV) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

The unsaved man can not understand the scriptures because they are spiritually discerned . Therefore to understand the scriptures the holyspirit must impart the knowledge to him . With the guidance of the Holy Spirit , we are to compare the scriptures against the scriptures in order to gain a better understanding of the Bible. Since the ” Natural ” man can not receive the things of the Spirit, the Bible is foolishness to them.

(1 Cor 2:13 KJV) Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

(1 Cor 2:14 KJV) But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

The work of the Holy Spirit is not to impart Gods word to us or to write and speak as prophets , but to have our minds illuminated by the Holy Spirit so that we might understand the scriptures and have a burning desire to live to the glory of God , and share Jesus Christ with others.
